Oxfam Window Display Design
Having the opportunity and creative freedom, I designed and built 20+ windows for Clarkston’s Oxfam Charity Shop . With materials from the shop itself and bought items like stands, posca pens and backdrops, I lead the volunteer team to create an eye catching window display for various themes.
Problematic Solutions -
Drawing on the windows from the inside made it tricky as whatever you draw, its back to front. Especially difficult to use words. I would go around and stencil it out from the outside and then draw within
People, because it was eye catching, would always want to buy the main item on display. Since it was a shop and we would sell all items in the window, I needed to have a few items behind the scenes to update - same colours / would fit into the theme
It was tricky building the display and painting on the windows with an audience. The only time we could make the display was during the opening times of the shop. Needed to keep it safe (ladders, safety pins) away from public.

Spring
Artificial grass cut to size of the raised platform, grass tied to the back stand, window paint for the illustration on window, using colour management for eye catching model piece

Halloween
Old worn chair as a centre piece with a chess set, apple juice in tumbler to mimic whiskey drink, haunting clock set to midnight. I looked at the twilight zone series to dress this scene

Christmas Window
Snowflakes painted with pen, creating an arc over the main scene. Mirror on the platform with spray snow around it to create a winter ice rink scene. Cushions under to create hills

Mad Hatters Tea Party
Fishing wire was used to safely hang tea cups and tea pots from the beam above, large scale playing cards were purchased and displayed around the layout. White window posca pens

Motorbike
Original and first drawings on the windows, use of watered down paint. Painted a piece on canvas which was bought for £50 in dontation to the charity. Main sell point was the motorbike jacket

Second Hand September
Selling point was to promote buying second hand items in September, simple design with expectation of constant evolving dressing. use of pens to create the mushroom illustrations

Camera
Took 15 SLR cameras home and fixed them so they can be sold. First time after covid lock down and I wanted to write Welcome Back. Circles were ment to symbolise camera lenses

World Book Month
It was world Book month! We made a clock and set a task to find books to hang that displayed the number 1-12 on the title. White pens were used to make eye popping characters.

Red Nose Day
We had massive bobbles from a previous Christmas that I suggested to spray paint red and make faces. Using various lengths of fishing wire to suspend in a triangle shape

Art Month
I really wanted to promote art during the lockdowns, I created an art scene similar to my studio space. I put funny touches like paint brushed in the tea and paint all over the clothes displaying fun
